One man, the beachcomber, went his teetering way among the rocks after a storm, profiting from the uneasy truce of sea and shore. Rackwick valley got its name from the wreckage the beachcomber trafficked in.

Hoy facts

The Dwarfie Hamars are amongst the impressive range of Hoy Hills. 'Hamars' is the Norse word for Hill cliffs and the Dwarfie Hamars is a range of cliffs located above the Dwarfie Stane. Interestingly, the Dwarfie Hamars have exactly the same physical features as Grutfea, even to the cliff Betty Corrigal's Graveterraces, which are alike in all respects. These two ranges lie opposite each other, separated by Ward Hill.
